Opening of the “Engaged” Exhibition at the Luan

On Wednesday the 6th of March saw the opening of  “Engaged”  at the Luan Gallery Athlone, a group exhibition by artists who have completed residencies in the Abbey Road Artists’ Studios Athlone. This multidisciplinary show includes works by local artists: Geraldine Kretsch, Rosemarie Langtry, Ann McGuinness, Margo McNulty, Lawrence O’Neill, Catherine Rock and Lesley Wingfield and myself.

The opening night was a great success there was a fantastic turnout with Shane Cullen opening the exhibition. engaged1Shane talked about everybody’s work individually giving his take on the pieces on display. The crowds circled around him to listen to his interpretation of the art on show. The gallery space looked so different from the previous exhibition for the IMMA (Irish museum of modern art). With the rooms now being restructured to give each artist their own individual space.

As well as the ‘Engaged’ exhibition ‘A Very Grand Canal’ opened on the same night in the Library gallery space, an exhibition showing the journey of the Grand Canal in Offaly from points of view of a number of artists. Commissioned by Offaly County Council under the per cent for art scheme. In the River Gallery space Shane Cullen from Longford installed his next three new panels titled ‘Fragmens sur les Institutions Républicaines IV’.

The exhibitions will run until the end of April to give people a chance to get to see the work on display. Below you can find some photographs from the opening night. And I hope everyone takes the chance to pop in a take a look around at all the wonderful work on display.
